TREASURE ISLAND, San Francisco — A July 1, 2026, change in park operations means San Francisco Recreation and Parks now manages the newly developed public parks on Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island.
The Treasure Island Development Authority remains responsible for the redevelopment program and ownership of future parkland. City recreation staff handle operation and management of parks added under the redevelopment program, while parkland not yet renovated remains under the development authority’s jurisdiction.
The distinction matters when residents report damage, ask about reservations or inquire about a proposed new recreation space. The long-term project envisions as many as 8,000 homes and more than 290 acres of parks and open space, but much of that is still part of a future buildout.
What residents should know
Check the specific facility listing to find hours, permitted activities and a contact point. Residents should avoid assuming all land shown green on a development map is already maintained as an open public park.
